A laundry shop owner who’s a dear friend of mine texted me two weeks ago about her situation. Here’s the text exchange which I find ironic and also amusing. I won’t mention her name to protect her privacy.
“Hi Monette. How’s your laundry shop ngayong tag ulan? Kami punong puno ngayong tag ulan, but I actually don’t like the feeling kasi parang overwhelming. Weird ba? I told my staff not to accept na for today and tomorrow because I don’t want to compromise quality. First time in almost 2 years! (my shop will turn 2 next month, thank God!) that I am refusing customers. The feeling isn’t nice din pala and come to think of it, may fear din because the customers will look for another shop and they might feel rejected in my shop. Hirap din, hahaha! Just sharing my experiences with you because I know you best understand me in this department.”
My reply:
“Hi my dear friend, I’d be happy to exchange places with you anytime, hehehe. With so many laundry shoppes sprouting within the vicinity I would be happy to get 1500 pesos worth of laundry in a day. It’s a good thing I have other businesses. Have you tried telling them that you can accept their laundry but they’d have to wait 2-3 days lead time”
Her text back:
“I tried assessing my laundry shop’s capacity, and even a 2 day lead time isn’t possible because of my industrial customers – hotel, motel, restaurants, parlors. The walk ins that we accepted yesterday will be done 2-3 days after pa. Oh well, there’s a risk of losing some customers but I’d rather do that than allowing my staff to get burned out. I asked one of our maids to help out na din muna so they’re 8 already, 2 shifs plus a driver. I called my supplier and I’m thinking of getting another set of washer and dryer. Depends on the price, the last time I got a pair for a little more than 400k. I am not sure if I can get the old price pa. I am weighing if I should get another set so I could accomodate more customers or open a branch and get smaller machines. Have to think hard. Thank you for listening Monette,
“
My reply:
“Yeah, I agree with you on that. The last thing you’d want your staff to be is get burned. Kawawa rin sila. Conratulations on your 2nd year! Have a nice day!”

hi miss monette..
i’m romy from Cagayan de Oro city. i am a doctor who is an active private and governement practitioner but i recently bought an existing laundry shop ng kakilala ko because i love washing clothes and i believe i can manage a small business and the reason why i bought the shop is because it already has an existing market. medjo ok naman ung business..kakastart ko lang po magmanage ng shop mga i week pa lang. here are some of my concerns po regarding my present situation:
1. i would really have wanted to attend in one of your seminars miss monette to really have a grasp on how to manage and go about my business but since nga i am in Cagayan de Oro and medjo busy rin ako sa practice ko as a doctor, is there an alternative or another option of getting the same amount of knowledge in laundry business without attending in the seminar?modules perhaps? how would i be able to get hold of one and how much?
2. at present i still am not accepting dry cleaning services because i still don’t know how…pano ba yun ginagawa? is it included in the module in case i get hold of one?
3. how do we maintain a very good smelling laundry with the fab con we’re using? we are currently using liquid detergent and fabric conditioner from Marrbont corporation..is that a good supplier? any other supplier you can suggest? when we use it kasi using the conventional method of washing, wala na syang bango ng fabcon after we have them dried sa dryer…so what the previous owner did was to dilute the fab con and spray them over the clothes in between the drying period which actually works…mabango ung clothes and matipid pa..i was initially hesitant to use the same process because i feel that fab cons should NEVER be sprayed directly on clothes. am i correct or OK lang ung process ng previous owner of the shop? is there a danger of staining the fabrics even with minute aerosole sprays? how then should the proper process be to keep the fab con scent last longer without wasting too much of the fab con?
4. another is the pricing miss monette, how should i charge for those na nagpapalaundry ng pillows? per piece? if so, how much is the usual range of prices?currently, i charge the pillows the same as the comforters at P40/kilo…tama ba ako?
5. lastly, how often do conduct seminars miss monette? i would still want to attend in your seminars even if i am already operating a laundry shop soon when i get to travel back to Manila probably sa convention namin.
thanks miss monette.
