Laundry business boomed this recent months sprouting in every corner of the metropolis. Good for the economy. However price war should be avoided at all costs. In our area of a small barangay, 6 laundry shops are existing in a 100 meter radius. 7 years ago, we were only 2 my shop being the second. How we enjoyed so much the captured market with Php30.00 per kilo. Then last year 2 laundry shops opened in interval of 1 year at the street just around the corner. Attempting to get a big slice of the market, they opened with an introductory offer of Php25.00 per kilo. That’s about 16% off of our price. About 6 months ago, a new laundry shop opened just across, as in across my shop…and the introductory offer? Php23.00 per kilo. How can I compete with that? Unfortunately, with the ressesion glooming the world, customers are forced to shift to a cheaper service. In fairness, competing laundry shop have a good service too, which is the reason why they were able to get almost all my walk in customers in the vicinity. For a very brief time, the other existing laundry shop at the other corner tried to struggle and fight off the price war, unfortunately they were not able to sustain. What made me survive the competition? Good Quality Service. Customer Loyalty. Free Pick Up and Deliver. Should I say they don’t have same service as I do? I don’t think so. Every business has their own style of getting customers and in my case, retaining customers. Good for my shop I have retained some, though I must admit it is because of my staff and not me, that made my customers stay with us. For now the vacated space is acquired by the neighboring water station, put up his own laundry shop..and just the other day , they opened again with the introductory price of Php23.-. Well, here goes another battle. I hope they’ll be able to sustain the business. Me? I’d still retain my price at Php30.00.
